An Odd Policy?

On 6-4-09 at around 8pm. I went to Fry's to purchase a few items, an amount totaling $130.00. As I was writing out a check, the sales person asked me if I had ever written one at Frys before. I explained that the checks were drawn from a new account and that while I hadn't written one from this bank I was sure I had made other purchases via check in the past. After dialing the phone (presumably to call my bank)and reading off questions from a list, eg where I live, what I do for a living I Was told that the store didn't have any way to verify my account e.g. VeriSign and that (despite having a valid form of ID that matched the information on the check)they wouldn't accept my check as payment.

Serendipity

I had just turned twenty and reached a point in my life when I realized two things. I needed to make some changes in my life. That; in essence I needed to try and become a better person. The second thing I realized was I had no earthly idea how to do that.
I began to study various schools of thought, I read every thing I could get my hands on. Self help books, The Torah, The Bhagavad Gita, The Old and New Testaments, The book of Mormon, The Rigveda, assorted "apocryphal" writings.
I had reached some thing of an impasse and decided to take a break. I had gone to a favorite book store and was picking my way through the used Sci-Fi and on the way out I decided to have a look at the shelf marked "Eastern Religion" I ran my fingers across the spines and fished out an old paper back copy of The Quran. At the time I had no way of knowing the effect this have in the rest of my life.

Nadya Suleman

As a tax payer my money has financed wars, funded the research of things that I find morally objectionable, even helped to purchase large portions of companies who's employees would otherwise not have bothered with someone like me.
While I don't agree with the choices she has made, it has occurred to me that feeding (and helping to provide for) her children will probably be the least objectionable thing my tax dollars will be spent on this year.
